Gessner Engineering provided geotechnical engineering services for the proposed construction of a shop and office building in Colorado County. The proposed plant expansion will have a footprint of approximately 18,000 square feet. Subsurface conditions were evaluated by drilling six test bore holes to depths of 25 feet and 30 feet below the existing ground surface within the limits of the proposed structures. Expansive soils were present on this site. Gessner Engineering provided recommendations to help mitigate the effects of soil shrinkage and expansion. The primary foundation recommendation to support the proposed structure was a slab and grade beam foundation system supported on drilled piers.
