Gessner Engineering provided geotechnical engineering services for four interconnected structures and structural engineering services. The project site was approximately 9.2 acres and the proposed new facility included approximately 105,000 square feet of vaccine and pharmaceutical manufacturing space (including 20 self-contained mobile clean room pods) and nearly 50,000 square feet of educational space dedicated to workforce development and applied research. Geotechnical engineering services included evaluating subsurface conditions by drilling 27 test borings to depths ranging from 10 feet to 70 feet. Based on the information from the soil investigations, Gessner Engineering recommended the NCTM building be constructed as a structural slab with a void space, supported on drilled piers. Structural engineering services involved a mock up tilt wall panel.
