Stepping Stone School

Gessner Engineering provided geotechnical and civil engineering services for Stepping Stone School in College Station. The site layout includes a one-story building with a footprint of approximately 5,900 square feet and associated parking. Prior to drilling, we performed a first phase environmental site assessment to provide due diligence information for use in an evaluation for potential environmental concerns associated with the site. For geotechnical engineering, subsurface conditions were evaluated by drilling two test bore holes to a depth of approximately 20 feet within the limits of the proposed building and two bore holes to a depth of approximately 5 feet within the limits of the proposed parking area. Based on the field and laboratory data available, along with our previous experience, the primary foundation recommendation of Gessner Engineering was to support the proposed structure on a slab and grade beam foundation system. This system is optimal because it is economical for the type and scale of this project, yet still maintains a low risk of damage from movement if properly designed. Civil engineering services included the design of utility service lines for wastewater, fire and domestic water to serve the proposed facility, site grading, pavement design and joint layout based on the geotechnical recommendations, and detention design to meet the requirements of the City of College Station. Additionally, Gessner Engineering submitted the necessary plans and construction documents to obtain a Development Permit from the City of College Station.
