Liberal Arts and Arts & Humanities Building, Texas A&M University

Gessner Engineering will provide construction materials testing services for the Spence Street Renovation and new five-level academic building on the Texas A&M University campus. The proposed building will total approximately 107,000 square feet and will house the Department of English, the Institute for Digital Humanities, Media and Culture, and the Department of Performance Studies. We will perform pier monitoring (cast auger piles), field inspections and tests including: concrete testing, soils testing, compaction/density tests, window leak testing, aggregate testing, and stabilization evaluations (all testing as per ASTM Specifications), and will prepare all field inspection and test reports. Each lift of general fill, stabilized material or select fill material will be inspected and tested. Field density and moisture tests will be performed by the nuclear method in accordance with ASTM D2922. At least one field in-place moisture and density test will be performed for every 2,500 square feet of compacted fill per lift, but in no case fewer than five tests for any given lift or as directed by client. Scheduled for completion in 2012, this project will be designed to Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED®) silver standards - a national rating scale developed by the United States Green Building Council to encourage more sustainable buildings.
