Gessner Engineering provided geotechnical engineering and construction materials testing services for the Brenham Police Department. The project consists of the proposed construction of a building at the site located near F.M. 389 and Longwood Drive in Washington County. Subsurface conditions were evaluated by drilling four test borings with depths ranging between 12 feet and 20 feet within the limits of the proposed site. Based on the results of the geotechnical report, highly expansive soils were present on this site. The primary foundation recommendation of Gessner Engineering was to support the proposed structure with a slab and grade beam foundation system supported on piers. Testing services for the building, paving and landscaped retention pond consisted of pier monitoring for the buildings. Piers were drilled two feet into the sandstone strata. Grout and mortar testing was included as well. Inspection services included bolt inspections via turn-of-the-nut method and visual deck weld inspections.
