Gessner Engineering provided civil, structural and geotechnical engineering, and construction materials testing services for the main campus, football field and track at Allen Academy. For the main campus, subsurface conditions were evaluated by drilling 36 test bore holes to depths ranging between 5 feet to 20 feet within the limits of the five proposed new buildings. Gessner Engineering investigated the conditions for each building separately and individual foundation recommendations were provided. Subsurface conditions for the football field and track were evaluated by drilling two test bore holes to a depth of approximately 10 feet within the limits of the proposed site. Due to the presence of highly expansive soils on this site, Gessner Engineering included recommendations in the final report to help mitigate the effects of soil shrinkage and expansion. Gessner Engineering recommended asphalt pavement supported on crushed gravel base for the running track. Construction materials testing services included in-place nuclear density tests, a compaction test report and a sieve analysis. Maximum density tests were performed in accordance with ASTM D 698.
